14. September 2009Code Berlin – Postercontest
06. September 2009Since 2006, Berlin is Europe’s first and only »UNESCO-City of Design«. To promote the title CREATE BERLIN was looking for Berlin’s »CODE«. It stands for »City Of Design« and also for the visual key of Berlin.
300 Designers were invited to show their work at about 1000 different places in the city. The best results will be shown in an exhibition in the Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum in Berlin from 5th of September 2009. Later the 20 finalists works will travel to Montreal, Buenos Aires, Kobe/Nagoya and Shezen – the other UNESCO Citys of Design.
DIEPHOTODESIGNER.DE and COORDINATION developed a series of three posters inscenating the multi faced design object Crystal City Mind.
Along typical scenes in the city it reflects in his surface parts of the view to all directions at the same time. This shows the variety of the city which has no unique “code”. Rather Berlin is characterised by its variety, its breaks and permanent change, without being however thereby racing or identityless.
Beside this there are two real codes in the poster: digital one and the classic navigation code to locate the places. So the lines arround the object stand for longitude and latitude and at the same time symbolise the network of the creative scene in Berlin.
On the posters one part of Crystal City Minds surface is covered with high polished steel thus acting as a mirror. It reflects the visitors and their surroundings and makes them become involved.
